I think what's making me so skeptical is just how fair the whole deal seems, and how positive all the feedback this guy has. I'd love to hear some stories of people who have done similar deals, and how the whole thing went down. I hope you send me something in return and fingers crossed it's authentic!" It seems like an incredible leap of faith to be like, "Here you go buddy, here's the watch I worked my way up to for close to seven years and a bunch of money. I've spent hours pouring over the various threads on nearly every watch forum of positive feedback for Sean and Collection of Time, seen his Ebay feedback, and all this, but I can't shake how nervous I am about the whole thing. Eventually I started talking to a man named Sean Landsnaes from who appears to not only have a flawless reputation online, but also is offering a surprisingly fair deal on trading my existing watch, extra links, box, papers, etc plus a very fair amount of cash for a new in box 2013 no-date Submariner.Ĭatch is, he's located in Miami and I'm in Chicago and the way he typically handles transactions is by having customers mail him their watch and arrange payment, once everything checks out, he mails you the new watch, and he covers shipping both ways. This sort of lead me to the online "gray market" watch dealer world found in the buy/sell/trade section of watch forums. I've gotten offers around $2,500, when I know I could sell it myself on Craigslist (admittedly, with the hassle of dealing with Craigslisters) for close to twice that based on conversations I've had with local people who have sold similar watches on Craigslist in my area. Initially, I looked in to trading at actual jewelry shops, as I feel the most comfortable doing that but you take an insane gouging in the process. I love the Submariner, as it's the watch I've always wanted but recently I've had a bit of an itch to "upgrade" to the newer version of the watch with the larger case, better clasp, ceramic bezel, etc. My most recent acquisition was a couple years ago when I got a 2007 no-date Rolex Submariner from in Los Angeles. Long story short, for the last ten years or so I've been "trading up" with various automatic watches every few years as I save up enough money to trade my existing watch plus some cash for a "better" one. Hey guys, long time lurker of r/watches which is easily one of my favorite subreddits.
